Docwam's Travels in 2011

Lynn and I at 6500 feet over the Temecula Valley
May 2011 is coming to a close.  I have just posted my grades and another year teaching history at California State University, Fullerton, has come to a close.  It has been just over two year since Lynn and I returned from our WONDERFUL circumnavigation of the world on a Holland-America cruise.  Last year Lynn took her mother to Alaska for a short cruise, but I stayed home, so I can assure you that I AM READY for another journey!

This year our plan is to travel through the Baltic and Scandinavia, including an exploration of some areas previously "off limits" to Americans-- other than diplomats and spies, I suppose.  In less than two weeks we will fly from Los Angeles to Amsterdam, that is, if the volcano in Iceland will stop spewing ash long enough to permit air flight to Northern Europe to resume.  We will take the train (of course!!!) over to Rotterdam, where we will board the m.s. Rotterdam, the very ship which carried us around the world in 2009.  Our journy will include stops at Copenhagen, Warnemunde (for Berlin), Tallinn, Saint Petersburg, Helsinki, Stockholm and, after a brief return to Rotterdam, several ports along the Atlantic coast of Norway before returning to Rotterdam for a flight back home.

The purpose of this blog is to allow those of you who are interested to follow along with Lynn and I on our journey, and to see some of the pictures I know we will be taking along the way.

By the way, if you are interested in our earlier trip around the world, you can read my earlier blog at: Worldview2009.blogspot.com.  In addition to my "circumnavigation observations," there are also posted there a few of the more than 6,000 pictures we took along the way.

I hope you enjoy our travels.
